To share the true story of an addiction survivor, using animation to protect identity while building empathy, understanding and hope for others.
We partnered with the Rutland Centre to develop a moving, typography-led video that could help break the stigma around addiction and highlight the life-changing support they provide
The story needed to:
Maintain anonymity while retaining emotional honesty
Represent the internal experience of addiction and recovery
Avoid cliché or sensationalism
Be suitable for awareness campaigns, education and fundraising
We produced a kinetic typography animation using a real transcript from “Patrick” (a pseudonym), shaped into a tightly edited, emotionally layered script.
Created a visually dynamic word-based animation to reflect the intensity of the story
Matched font movements and pacing to the narrator’s emotional rhythm
Used dark-to-light tonal shifts to reflect the movement from struggle to hope
Delivered in a short, impactful runtime with subtle background music for tone
The anonymity added power — letting the story stand on its own terms.
The video is used by the Rutland Centre to:
Support public awareness campaigns
Provide accessible, stigma-free education on addiction and recovery
Share real impact with donors and partners
Use in talks, schools and outreach events
